OUR MISSION

We have asked all our suppliers to operate in accordance with our code of conduct, which requires suppliers to work towards adapting to UN's 17 global goals, for environmentally sound development.

At the moment, certified materials make up 90% of our range.

What are certifications?

The small icons are increasingly appearing on webshop - laundry labels, hangtags and packaging. But what does it actually mean when your clothes are certified? Is it credible? And how can that be a help to you?

All our styles are created with an environmental focus and a CO2-neutral future in mind. We are a slow impact brand, which overall means higher quality, timeless designs, responsible production and less consumption.

We are GOTS Certified

GOTS is a leading international standard for traceable organic textile goods, which has strict requirements on non-hazardous chemical input from fibre to finished product. GOTS is verified through product test and independent auditing to ensure social and environmental responsibility through every step of the supply chain.

GOTS is measured on three positive impact levels:

 The nature & the environment
All stages in the production needs clear environmental policies for minimizing waste and discharge, as well as strong requirements for ingredients and dyes that are allowed in the finished textile.

The workers in the supply chain for responsible working conditions.
All parties involved must be able to document responsible working conditions, hours, and wages, as well as the possibility of collective negotiations.

The consumers get a verified better and healthier choice
GOTS requires a minimum of 70% organic fibres in each product. Furthermore, there are also requirements for the durability of the textile, when washing, rubbing etc. and restricted substances on non-hazardous chemical input.

Tencel & Eco-Vero

Tencel and Eco-Vero are produced by the Austrian company Lenzing, which is a much better alternative to traditional viscose.

Like traditional viscose, they are made from regenerated plant fibres, but where production has previously been associated with several challenges in the form of harsh chemicals, pollution of aquatic environments and lack of fiber traceability, Lenzing has managed to develop a closed circuit where solvents and water are recycled, and they use fibres that are obtained from certified sustainable forestry.

Responsible Wool

Wool is fantastic, but…

Wool is a fantastic material with a wide range of advantages, but unfortunately not all wool is produced with animal welfare in mind. We ensure through 'mulesing free' that the animals have not been harmed.

In addition, a large part of our wool comes from responsible farms, where the animal welfare has a strong focus. This means that the animals must be kept free from hunger, thirst, discomfort, fear, pain, injuries, and illness, and that they must have the freedom to exercise naturally. In addition, requirements are set for the operation of the areas on which the animals live, including the protection of the health and biodiversity of the land.

Recycled materials

Traceability and accountability are crucial to us…

Therefore, we only use recycled materials on which we can obtain detailed documentation. In addition to ensure recycled fibres, it is important to us, that we can vouch for the textiles' health, environmental impact, and social profile, including responsible working conditions, hours, and wages, as well as the possibility of collective negotiations.

Basic Apparel uses synthetic recycled materials only such as recycled polyester – and only when we believe that it can fill a functional need. Your comfort and user experience are crucial for whether our styles have a good and long life in your wardrobe.
